Handling Adults

I think if we learn how to patiently handle kids, handling adults would be cakewalk.

But what do you do if you feel like a kid stuck in the adult world?

May I Help You?

We would all agree that the concept of customer service isn’t yet an evolved amongst us Indians. But best of it comes at very surprising places.

  • The most helpful, patient and courteous call center agent that I’ve ever come across, was when I called up Indian Airlines. A pleasant surprise it was.
  • The best waiter I came across was when we entered a pub mistaking it for another one. The guy was an engineer, working there part time. But then I also should mention another one who in a small Gujju Thali place back in Dubai. Even if it wasn’t, he made the food taste like it was made at home, because he made us feel at home.
  • The best customer follow-up was made by a tailor in a small market here in Gurgaon. A couple of days after taking the clothes from him, he called up to check if they fit well and if we were satisfied with them.

As much as I make it a point to report badly behaved customer service agents, I also like to write to the companies about the wonderful employees they have and the excellent service they provide. Now I understand why they don’t respond to my complaints, but what about the appericiative mails?

Ah! Loads to do!

Wakey! Wakey!

God sends these wake-up calls to everyone. The kind where you’re expected to go “Whoa! What was I thinking…. I’m a piece of s**t and so is everyone else around me. Tomorrow I will change the world. For now, let me go back to sleep.” You know, the “Aha!” moments that such wake-up calls bring which suddnely clear up your perspective… temporarily, if not forever. And such wake-up calls don’t come too often. They are extremely rare. God doesn’t want you to feel bad about yourself every now and then.

My case is slightly different. I get wake-up calls from up there…. everyday! And at the same time. These arn’t the normal kinds. These are literally meant to wake me up from my deep (snore-free) slumber. Every night before dozzing off on my messy bed, I plan to wake up at 8 in the morning. And every morning, something happens right around that time. Either my nephew screams out loud, some moron thinks he can reach an alien-sounding creature on my number, people in the flat above ours decide to drill holes through their walls. You get the idea, eh?

But like every other normal ones, I’ve managed to steer past these special ones too. I only wake up at noon and then crib about how I never go according to plans. *Sigh*

Let’s hope I get another call tomorrow!

Aaanchoon!

  • Somehow a lotta people in Dubai initiated conversation with me in Arabic. Never happened before. Have I started looking like an Arab? It only used to be Mallu earilier!
  • On my flight to Dubai, the man sitting next to me sneezed atleast 37 times. I came down with flu, the day I was supposed to fly back. Towards the end of the flight back to Delhi, I could hear the guy next to me sniffling restlessly. Pay back time it was!
  • I didn’t click even a single pic during the week long trip. Weird, I know!
