Dubai got Drenched

Days like today don’t deserve just a post. They call for a celebration. And that’s exactly what I had… a celebration!

It has been raining through out the day today. It’s dark, gloomy, damp, squishy, cold. Yet, there are smiles all around (ignore the traffic jams and soiled clothes). It’s an annual event. And it has made people more excited than Dubai Shopping Festival does (confession: I have never been to the Global Village, nor do I intend to in the future).

After a busy day at work, headed for sumptutous lunch, coffee in the open … peacefully reading a book, relaxing with friends while being slouched in a couch, eating a warm choclate chip muffin and watching the drops of water on the glass window trickle down. The ripples in the puddles of water. The splashes by the speeding cars. The waves in mid air by the strong winds. And ending the day with nice, hot and spicy rajma-chawal that mom made :)

Took two videos with my phone. Both look quite similar though.

And a few pics too!

Who’s gonna drive you home?

I understand you work 16hours a day and you have no time to socialize. I understand that your income is meager and it’s hard to make the ends meet. I understand that your families are back in your home country and the only contact with humans you make are the ones you have to serve who often treat you like shit. So if once in a while you meet someone who seems kinder than the others, you like to share your grievances, sorrows, joys, sponsorship money, views on the world politics, nuclear war, the burst tyre lying in the trash can, etc etc. Believe me I would be very interested in lending you a ear and even discussing everything with you but early morning hours is not the ideal time to force me to indulge in such talka. That is when I’m extremely grumpy and wishing I could get some more peace and quiet if not some sleep. So my dear cabbies of UAE, forgive me for my rudeness if I snap back and make you shut up but I really would avoid making the morning anything other than good.
